This menu of delicious rides and events is brought to you by our friends at Hopworks Urban Brewery. Their support makes BikePortland possible.

With the hustle and bustle of the “holiday season” on the horizon, it’s time to seize the weekend. Now is the time of year when every chance to ride is something to be cherished, so it makes sense to plan ahead.

What are your plans? Check out our suggestions below…

Saturday, December 5th

Global Fat Bike Day Ride – 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Frenchman’s Bar in Vancouver
Come and ride the shores of the Columbia River with fellow fat bike lovers near and far. Bring snacks and drinks (outdoor coffee kits encouraged). If you need a fat bike rent one from Ride Yr Bike. More info here (FB).

Move the SE Portland Tool Library By Bike – 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at SEPTL/St David’s Church (2800 SE Harrison Ct)
The tool library is moving to the Hinson Church at Salmon and 20th and they’re using bikes to do most of the hauling. Bring your trailers, straps and cargo bikes and be prepared for any type of weather (that means a few tarps would be a good idea too). Pizza and beer for all who help. More info here.

Sandy Ridge Trail Maintenance Day – 9:30 am to 2:00 pm at Sandy Ridge Trailhead
Put some work back into the trails you love. Sandy Ridge is the hottest place to ride in our region, so the trails need extra care and feeding to stay in prime shape. Join the Northwest Trail Alliance, Bureau of Land Management, and the Internaional Mountain Bicycle Association for a day of digging that will prepare the trails for winter. Bring your bike to ride afterwards, they’ll supply the shovels and other tools. More info here.

Barnes Dance with PBOT – 10:00 am at NW 11th and Couch
Help PBOT staff and officials celebrate Portland’s first ever “pedestrian scramble signal” — aka Barnes Dance — by dancing in the street. Show up to NW 11th and Couch, wait for the green, then shake it! More info here.

The Bike Commuter Holiday Sale – 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (Sat & Sun) at 8524 SE 17th
Just two days to score “screaming deals on new bikes and gear” say our friends at this excellent bike shop in Sellwood. They’ll have a puppet show at 2:00 pm both days and free hot cider and mulled wine all day on Saturday. More info here (FB).

Hidden Gems of the Springwater – 12:00 pm at Westmoreland City Park (SE McLoughlin and Bybee)
Venture off the popular path and find secret treasures like a waterfall, ponds, and who knows what else. Expect a 14-mile loop that includes stops at a holiday gift bazaar and the Franz Bakery outlet. More info here.

Rivelo Holiday Open House w/ Grant Petersen – 1:00 to 5:00 pm at Rivelo (401 SE Caruthers St, Suite 103)
Come check out Rivelo’s cool shop and nosh on cheese, cookies and egg nog. Oh, and a guy named Grant Petersen (founder of Rivendell Bicycle Works) will be there too.

Sunday, December 6th

Winter Climb to the Rose Garden – 10:00 am at Woodstock Park (SE 47th and Steele)
Curious about riding the roads in Washington Park and up near the Oregon Zoo? Join the Portland Wheelmen Touring Club and stretch your climbing legs. Expect a 24-mile route from southeast, across town and up to the Rose Garden. Lots of food and drink options on Woodstock Blvd at the end of the loop. More info here.

Kimmy Cross- 12:00 pm at The BeerMongers (1125 SE Division)
Ride bikes all over town alleycat-style while celebrating life and loved ones in this benefit for the family of Kim Matheson. Kim passed away just a few days ago after a fight with skin cancer. She was well-known in our community and was an active racer and member of The BeerMongers Cycle Club and Les Femmes de S&M. Tons of great prizes to be had. More info here.
